Frame size 13.8 inches X 17.7 inches ( 35cm X 45cm ). Available for sale is this original painting by the italian artist vincenzo d’esposito, dating from circa 1918. The painting is presented and supplied in a sympathetic and contrasting contemporary frame to suit the subject colouration (which is shown in these photographs) and behind non-reflective tru vue ultravue® uv70 glass. This antique piece is in superb condition. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display. The painting is signed lower right. This original gouache on paper painting shows the hms nairana on calm open waters, probably in her early days as a commissioned vessel. There is a hint of other ships on the horizon and a couple of seagulls flying in the foreground, but the ship herself is very much the focus of this painting. She is shown side on, travelling to the viewer’s right. We see her two funnels, with grey smoke trailing behind and a flagpole at the rear of the ship flying the white ensign flag of st george. The crane and other modifications made to the ship for her service as a seaplane carrier are clearly visible. The ship is a military pale grey, afloat an azure sea and under a pale blue sky with white clouds, tinged with violet.
