Superb pair of Directoire-Empire period chairs in solid walnut, from the same workshop and perfectly matched — same patina, same carving, same history. Characteristic neoclassical silhouette with its high scroll backrest (gendarme hat) and sabre-shaped rear legs. A great classic of early 19th-century French furniture, timeless and always decorative. The backrest is adorned with a hand-carved medallion representing a flower basket in a beaded circle on a fluted support — a delicate and bourgeois motif, typical of provincial production from the Empire period. Deep and warm original patina. Traditional woven straw seats, star pattern. Light signs of wear consistent with age — no restoration, everything is period. At the heads of a table, at the end of a corridor, facing a desk, or simply placed there for visual pleasure — this pair fits well in both a classic interior and a contemporary apartment seeking character and authenticity. Dimensions: backrest height = 43 cm, seat width = 39 cm, seat height = 44.5 cm, seat depth = 37 cm, total height = 88 cm, maximum width = 40 cm. To be collected in Saint Nom La Bretèche or Versailles. I can deliver it to the foot of your house or building for 40 euros if you live in the southern and western parts of department 75, near Paris in 78, or in 92.
