Set of 4 Costes dining chairs, designed by Philippe Starck in 1984 and manufactured by Driade Aleph. The chairs are marked with the original label on the frames. Originally the chairs were designed for the Parisian Cafe Costes. The chairs have a molded plywood with mahogany veneer backrest and a black lacquered tubular steel frame. The seat cushion is covered with black leather. The three legs were designed not only for aesthetic reasons, but also to prevent waiters in the busy cafe from tripping. The elegantly curved and sophisticated laminated backrest, which also serves as an armrest, gives the chair an aura of exclusivity. The chairs are in good original condition. The mahogany backrests are still excellent, only some minor wear on top of the armrests. The leather itself is still very good, it has only been stretched a little, which has caused some creases, as visible in the picture.
