REMILANDOU, HSP landscape fisherman’s cabin Congo signed 20th century

Large oil on isorel depicting a landscape of the Congo, a fisherman's hut by the river. Signed bottom left Remilandou and dated 1961. Provenance: former private collection of a colonial administrator in the 1950s. Wooden framing (alternative framing presentation). Period: 20th century. Dimensions: framed 70 X 90 cm, visible 55 X 76 cm. Good condition. Ref 2303145. REMILANDOU (20th century), School of Poto-Poto Brazzaville. This school of painters was founded in the Poto-Poto district of Brazzaville by Pierre Lods in 1951. The recognition of the school quickly transcended the borders of the Congo, with a first collective exhibition in 1952 at the Palmes gallery in Paris. The consecration occurred in 1955-1956 during the exhibition at MoMA in New York. It was confirmed in 1958 when Lods sent several members to represent the School of Poto-Poto at the Brussels World Expo. Today, the second generation of painters from the School of Poto-Poto carries on its legacy, oscillating between African tradition and universal modernity. Their works still bear the initials PPP (Painter of Poto-Poto).
