Ceramic vase by Nils Thorsson, Royal Copenhagen 1950s. Nils Johan Thorvald Thorsson (1898–1975) was a Swedish-Danish ceramic designer and one of the most prolific designers at Royal Copenhagen–Aluminia. He worked there for over sixty years, including as artistic director of Aluminia (1928–1969) and Royal Copenhagen (1949–1969); his designs blend nature-inspired, geometric, and abstract motifs, achieving a perfect balance between rigorous technique and expressive aesthetics. The Baca series, with its textured glazes and delicate patterns, remains one of the most sought-after by enthusiasts and collectors. Today, Nils Thorsson’s pieces are highly collectible: they embody the charm of Danish mid-century design, rich in creative expression while maintaining high functionality.
