Presentation plate with blue rose pattern from the 1860s. Inscription on the back: "terre de fer, only depot in paris, 17 rue drouot". For the record: émile bourgeois was born in 1832 in normandy, france. At the age of 16, he started working as a clerk in a porcelain store in paris. In 1856 he moved to london and became a salesman for major english pottery manufacturers. In 1860, emile returned to france and in 1862, at the age of 30, he leased premises at 17 rue drouot in paris, originally a modest outlet for english ceramics. About a year later, at 21 rue drouot, he opened “le grand dépôt”. Soon the store included french porcelain and earthenware, often produced to émile's own specifications. Dimensions: lower diameter 13 cm, upper diameter 22.5 cm, height 4 cm. Average condition, traces that do not go away, crack on the bottom and repairs already dated... Old and collectible flea market item!.
