Massive pine bank chest, Art-Populaire, Auvergne, 19th century

Solid pine bench chest, originating from 19th-century Auvergnat folk art. It serves as both seating and storage, opening with a hinged lid on old wrought iron fittings and concealing a large storage space. The front is rhythmically divided by three framed panels. One end features an overhanging post that forms a small armrest or handle, a remnant of a previous transformation that adds to the uniqueness of the piece. Traditionally placed near the cantou, the large fireplace of Auvergnat homes, this type of furniture was used to store salt, domestic supplies, or kindling for the fire. The wood has a beautiful old patina and numerous signs of age that enhance its authenticity. Dimensions: H 60 × Seat height 51 × W 111 × D 39 cm.
