Roger THIBIER (1926-2001) Low table in beaten iron with a golden patina, featuring four leg sleeves supporting a glass top, connected by a stretcher formed by a double arc. Work from the Ramsay house from the mid-20th century. Note: a chip on the top at the corner (see detailed photos). Almost invisible once the top is placed. Dimensions: H 39.5 L 114 D 53.5 cm. Thickness of the top: 1.5 cm. Born in Paris into a wealthy family, Robert Thibier (1926-2001) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and became an interior architect in 1951. With offices located at the finest addresses in Paris (Place de la Madeleine and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré), he catered to a clientele of celebrities and high-profile personalities, including the Rothschild family, as well as athletes and industrialists. An interior architect rather than a furniture designer, Thibier produced a few pieces for his clients, intending to create "modern antiques" that harmonised with other European antiques and conveyed a strong impression of opulence. To achieve this, he created geometric furniture in wrought iron covered with a very subtle gold leaf. Some of his pieces are signed and numbered. In the 1970s, Robert Thibier also collaborated with the Ramsay House and created some of their most famous designs. His grave in the Montparnasse cemetery attests to his sense of style. The Ramsay house is a furniture and decoration company from the 20th century. It reached its peak in the 1950s to 1970s. Ramsay specialises in the work of glass and gilded metal, but also, more rarely, marble and stone. The metal is forged for most of the creations. The style of the Ramsay house is inspired by neoclassicism.
