Pretty tripod compotier in white porcelain from paris, with lid, decorated with gilded nets highlighting two mascarons in the shape of women's heads. Period: xixth century. Dimensions: height: 15 cm without lid                        height: 23 cm with lid                        diameter of the base: 15 cm   Paris porcelain, also called "old paris" in the language of antique dealers, is hard porcelain made in paris from 1770 to 1830-50, and imitating the productions of sèvres.   Before 1770, some factories tried their hand at soft porcelain, notably that of the chicaneau family in the faubourg saint-antoine.   The development of parisian factories and its surroundings really began in 1770 with the production of hard pulp using kaolin discovered and transported from limousin.  Despite the exclusive privilege of the sèvres factory, many nobles obtained the right to patronize their own porcelain workshop.  Indeed, the edict of 1760 prohibiting color and gilding on porcelain did not apply to the nobility.   The heyday of these factories is in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. In 1850, they will have almost all closed or moved to the provinces (limousin and berry) for reasons of profitability.
