In the 1970s, convinced that one had to be worked on, Ettore Sottsass tried to re-qualify the face of the workplace. Considering the distinctive or hierarchical signs as archaic, the differences must, in his view, come from the space and tools that the working person needs. It develops a modular principle of simple elements, which can vary in size, numbers and colors. Synthesis 45 is eerily similar to the principle of "habitat profiles" imagined a year earlier in the exhibition italy: the new domestic landscape.
