This lovely Napoleon III period bedroom chair has everything we love about Second Empire furniture: blackened wood, gilded decorations, an intricately designed backrest, and this delightful pink velvet that softens the whole. The Napoleon III style mainly developed during the Second Empire, between 1852 and 1870. It is a period when comfortable, decorated, and sometimes frankly opulent interiors are favoured. Inspirations from previous centuries are willingly mixed: Louis XV, Louis XVI, Renaissance… Blackened wood, gilding, upholstered fabrics, and intricate decorations become particularly appreciated. The bedroom chair is generally smaller and more delicate than a dining chair. It serves as an extra seat for dressing, putting on shoes, or sitting in front of a dressing table. Today, it can obviously take some liberties with protocol: in a bedroom, an entrance, in front of a desk or a dressing table, it will look very pretty.
