Pair of antique cast iron andirons, made in France, dating from the late 19th century. These andirons feature beautiful busts in Renaissance-inspired costumes topped with wide hats, typical of the historicist taste of the second half of the 19th century. Their sober and architectural design highlights the quality of the casting and the authentic patina of the iron. The structure consists of a substantial cast iron profile ensuring perfect stability in the hearth. As seen in some older models, the two andirons exhibit a slight difference in depth, characteristic of their original design. The iron has retained its old patina. A light restoration (brushing, graphite wax) will achieve a superb satin black while preserving their authenticity. Ideal pieces for an antique fireplace, a characterful home, or a chic country, château, or manor house décor. Characteristics. • France, late 19th century (circa 1880-1900) • Cast iron. • Neo-Renaissance style. • Height: 22 cm. • Width: 9 cm. • Depth: 35 cm and 32 cm. • Weight: 6 kg for the pair. • Good structural condition, patina of use, and surface oxidation consistent with age. Reference I066.
