Large abstract woodcut by swedish auction artist yngve berg (1887-1963). Hand-signed and numbered by the artist in the lower part. In an original period setting. Low edition 14 of 50 pieces. The gray spots in some photos are the effect of the camera. Yngve berg, born 23 december 1887 in stockholm, died 19 july 1963 in stockholm, was a swedish artist and book illustrator. Berg studied at the gothenburg school of museums, drawing and painting 1906-07, stayed in paris 1908-13 and traveled around spain in 1910 and 1913. He became known mainly as a cartoonist: cleopatra (26 panels 1913), spanish (illustrated journals travels; 1915), fredman's songs by carl michael bellman and fredman's letters (1917-18). He also illustrated karl asplund's a monk's tale (1918), made some sets and costume drawings for rabindranath tagore's "chitra" and more for the intima theater (1921), and made decorative murals (bellman's fantasier) at the stadshüskällaren in stockholm (1922). His later works include illustrations for ovid's play of loving (1925, 1957), goethe's roman elegies (1929) and bo bergman's stockholm poems (1947). Yngve berg also drew the first version of the coat of arms of the city of stockholm, based on a wooden figure of saint eric in roslagsbro church in roslagen. Berg was an art critic at dagens nyheter 1931-55 and a curator at the thielska gallery 1949-60. Berg was also involved in the interior decoration of villa bonnier in diplomatstaden in stockholm. There is a bust self-portrait in the state portrait collection at gripsholm castle. Berg is represented, among others, in the national museum in stockholm.
