Pair of Renaissance chairs, carved oak with caning, 19th century.
Magnificent pair of French neo-Renaissance style chairs made of solid oak, dating from the second half of the 19th century. Their high openwork backs immediately capture the eye: a finely carved central cartouche adorned with leafy scrolls, vine leaves, and grape clusters, crowned with an interlacing of flowering branches and two elegant turned ball finials. The side posts, decorated with pilasters featuring rosettes and baluster turnings, give the whole a monumental and refined silhouette. The seat, upholstered with traditional hexagonal caning in excellent condition, rests on a belt sculpted with water leaves and classical scrolls. The tapered fluted legs, typical of the Henri II repertoire, are joined by an H-shaped stretcher with turned bars and a sculpted central block. The golden honey patina, homogeneous and warm, reflects beautiful cabinetmaking craftsmanship. Good condition, with slight wear consistent with age. Dimensions: H. 100 cm × W. 44 cm × D. 41 cm — Weight: 10 kg each. Perfect for dressing a dining room or a cabinet of curiosities, these two character pieces are ready to bring a touch of history and nobility to your interior.
