Thanks to the counterweight the lamp can easily be placed in all possible positions. Gispen was founded in the netherlands in 1916 by willem hendrik gispen. After studying architecture at the academy of visual arts and technical sciences, he became a designer in a rotterdam art smithy. 10 years later he took over the company and launched the first collection of lamps under the name giso (a combination of gispen and the name of his first wife anna gisolf).
