Large cast iron art nouveau period coat rack composed of seven hooks (missing mirror and umbrella holder), signed alfred corneau (1825-1886) charleville brothers. Height 218 cm width 65 cm depth 33 cm. The Corneau brothers, blacksmith masters, created a foundry company in 1846 – Charleville brothers – specializing in ornamental cast iron, as well as the first domestic comfort objects. Copied throughout the world, the talented Alfred Corneau designed creations combining aesthetics and know-how. This umbrella locker room, a souvenir of a certain art of living, has a single hook at the top and six double hooks on its sides, perfect for hanging hats, jackets and coats. In the center, an oval mirror surrounded by a garland of pearls tilts at will. Embellished with floral ornamentation, the elegantly shaped backsplash is topped with a basket of sculpted flowers. The lower part forms a large umbrella stand. The arabesques mingle with the leaves up to the oblong base decorated with flowers and fitted with a white cast iron tray. This quality coat rack from Alfred Corneau will dress up an entrance or vestibule in a unique way.
