Rare fossil stone and steel coffee table by Metaform 1970s

Rare coffee table produced by Metaform in the 1970s. What truly sets this piece apart is its extraordinary circular stone top. Composed of fossil-rich limestone that captures a prehistoric ocean in remarkable detail. Embedded within the surface are authentic deep sea fossils, beautifully preserved sea snails and ancient squid specimens dating back approximately 340 to 480 million years. The swirling shells, intricate chambered forms, and organic patterns create a mesmerizing natural composition. Each fossil is suspended in stone like a moment frozen in geological time. The surface is not merely decorative; it is a cross section of Earth’s distant past, formed long before the age of dinosaurs. This table is as much an artifact as it is functional furniture. A rare fusion of mid-century design and primeval natural history. Remains in excellent condition.
