This antique French storage bench dates from the first half of the 19th century, around 1800–1850. Made of solid oak, it combines a traditional wooden chest with a padded seat. The bench features a hinged wooden lid, covered in natural jute fabric with traditional straw padding. The upholstery has a rustic appearance, with visible stitching, wear, and irregularities that reflect its age and use. The solid oak structure has recessed panels on all four sides, rounded corners, and a simple moulded base. Over time, the wood has developed a warm, dark patina, with colour variations and signs of previous use. By lifting the hinged seat, a spacious storage compartment is revealed, originally intended for linens, blankets, or other personal effects. With its practical dimensions, the bench can be used in an entrance, bedroom, or living room, providing both seating and storage space. It also works very well as a blanket chest at the foot of a bed. In good antique condition with visible signs of age and use consistent with its era. The oak shows natural wear, marks, and colour variations, contributing to its authentic patina. The jute upholstery shows signs of wear, including visible stitching, small imperfections, and irregularities along the edges. These details are part of the aged appearance of the bench. Antique and vintage wooden furniture may show signs of historical woodworm activity. As a precaution, all our wooden furniture is treated preventively against woodworm before delivery.
