Large shallow dish in faience from the Boch factory in La Louvière, Belgium. Slightly bluish white glaze, decoration in shades of cobalt blue, scalloped edge. The basin features a Dutch landscape: a thatched farmhouse under large trees, two windmills on the horizon, a wooden bridge, cows in the meadow, and a boat on a canal lined with reeds. A wide border of flowers, foliage, and scrolls frames the scene. The landscape is printed and bears the signature "Sonneville" in the bottom right, reproduced with the decoration; the border appears to be hand-painted. The reverse bears the mark "Delfts" and the crowned monogram "MRL" of the Royal Manufacture of La Louvière, the name of the Boch faience factory in the late 1980s, which suggests its probable manufacture between 1985 and 1990. Boch Frères has been practising blue and white decoration in the Delft style since the late 19th century. This dish can find its place on a dining table, a sideboard, a console, or on the wall of a kitchen or dining room. The cobalt blue on white faience can suit a country house or a chic bohemian decor, as well as a more minimalist interior. Diameter: 39.5 cm, height: 5 cm. Weight: 2 kg. Generally in good condition, glaze and decoration well preserved on the front, small chip of glaze on the reverse near the mark. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
