Signed on the reverse (one martres france, the other of the faiencerie brand). Decorative pair, in excellent condition. 22 cm in diameter. The story of martres-tolosane is also that of a jealously guarded secret. The art of earthenware has been written for almost three centuries, without ever interrupting production. Martres-tolosane's earthenware business began in 1739, when joseph delondre, a faience painter from bordeaux, signed one of the very first pieces of earthenware made with martens-tolosane: a beard dish in shades of blues on a white background.
