Pair of Tivoli ceiling lights. Vintage edition in black and copper finish, manufactured by Nordisk Solar in the 1950s or 1960s. The Tivoli light fixture was designed in 1947 by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, long before his famous architectural competition win for the Sydney Opera House. At the time, Utzon was also designing lamps, which were his passion, to generate extra income for his family. The inspiration behind these lamps comes from the maritime heritage of his home city, Copenhagen. It's easy to see how their design echoes the ships, smokestacks, and bridges that lined Copenhagen's harbor in the mid-20th century. These lamps were originally sold by Nordisk Solar under the name "Tivoli Pendant, " but were later renamed "P254" to avoid copyright issues with the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in the heart of Copenhagen. Today, the Tivoli lamp, now renamed the Utzon JU1, has been reissued by the Danish company &Tradition. Very good condition, almost mint.
