Set of black and white plates in the style of toile de Jouy.

A pair of large white faience plates with black decoration, in the spirit of toile de Jouy. The very detailed decoration features pastoral scenes, houses, bridges, a fisherman in a boat, horse riders, animals, birds, butterflies, and vegetation. The slightly scalloped border adds relief to the whole piece. No stamp on the reverse. The decoration and shape resemble certain English productions, particularly Churchill, although it is not possible to attribute them to a specific manufacturer with certainty. In good vintage condition, with slight signs of use (see photos). Diameter: 25.5 cm. A traditional pastoral decoration that the black and white makes surprisingly contemporary.
