Description
A garden egg chair in orange, designed by peter ghyczy in 1968. The chair was designed for both indoor and outdoor use, although as a design icon and collector's item, it is rarely used outdoors. The chair lid lifts and closes, and when closed, it is theoretically waterproof. Peter ghyczy started his professional career as chief designer for the polyurethane plant "elastogran gmbh" in germany. His job was to start a design center to show the potential of polyurethane to industrial customers. The garden egg chair is one of the first polyurethane chairs. The design incorporates features typical of the time: a space-age look, a ufo-like shape, bright colors, portability and the informal relaxation quality of the low seat. Elastogran/reuter produced the plastic polyurethane. The chair is in very good restored condition. The seat remains in its original vintage condition, showing some signs of wear.
