Shark fin vase, mid-century modern, yellow glass, Poland, 1970s

A decorative vase from the 1970s, made of glass, is an example of Polish modernism in the mid-century modern trend. The dominant shade of glass – pastel, lemon yellow – gives it a semi-transparent character, with a velvety-satin interior and shiny, transparent edges. The monolithic, slightly undulating form with a wide base and dynamically flared, irregular collar and oval, transparent cut-outs on the sides creates a play of light on the surface. The vase is in very good condition, with no visible damage, losses, or repairs; small air bubbles reveal the handmade origin of the glass. This vase reflects the spirit of the 1970s, when Polish utility glass sought its own language, combining functionality with artistic expression. Its form is full of soft tension – asymmetrical lines and subtle shape changes refer to the creative freedoms of the era.
