Holy water font on a stone column, 17th century, height 79cm. Comes from an auction of religious objects that were used in a now deconsecrated chapel. Initially carved from a single piece of stone, this holy water font was unfortunately broken during the French Revolution. The "scars" are however now part of its history, and we have chosen to leave it as such. (Depending on taste, they can easily be completely hidden) Also visible are some remains of polychromy (see photos), but also more recent paint that had undoubtedly been applied to hide the break. Here again, we have chosen to keep the patina in this state, the holy water font could be sandblasted, but this is a matter of personal choice. Base decorated with Corinthian motifs evoking acanthus leaves, cylindrical column surmounted by the octagonal receptacle intended to store holy water. Beyond a formerly common religious object, this is a very beautiful stone carving work perhaps (without doubt?) carried out by a companion, this object has a soul and a "presence" which makes it extremely decorative in any type of interior. Base dimensions 38 x 38 cm, height 79 cm. Do not hesitate to ask for a transport quote for destinations not listed.
