Vintage Swedish mid-century figurative oil painting The Outing by Brita Hansson

Outing. Size: 34 X 46 cm (including frame) Oil on canvas paper laid to board. A very lively and playful mid century modernist figure scene, painted in oil onto board by the established female swedish artist brita hansson (1918-1979). In this vivid and richly coloured composition, a group of figures are depicted gathered together, and are set against a brightly painted background. There is an area of blue in the background of the painting, which possibly alludes to a body of water, suggesting that the figures are by the beach. Painted in a semi-abstract manner, the artist has thoughtfully chosen not to reveal the details of the figures, and has instead simplified and abstracted them down to painterly and expressive brushstrokes as well as blocks of contrasting saturated colours. This oil is painted onto thick canvas paper laid to board and is housed in a gilt frame with linen border. There is some craquelure present, mainly to the left hand side as shown in the close ups, but the paint layer is stable. There is some slight undulation to the surface, and the frame has some light scuffing. Overall the appearance is very good.
