Original pastel abstract

Louise rösler -- 1907 (berlin) – 1993 (hamburg) -- london -- 1977 -- pastel on paper, mounted on card by the artist -- signed and dated in pencil lower left, inscribed and signed verso -- framed -- 98 × 124 mm|3 3/4 × 4 7/8 in -- 170 × 234 mm|6 5/8 × 9 1/8 in (framed size) ---- a little jewel, full of intense life and colour. The artist was taught by fernand léger and her early family life also brought her into frequent contact with greats such as walter gropius and max beckmann. She found collage as important and traditional painting and draughtsmanship, and by the end of her career had broken completely from concrete pictorial reference, developing a language of generous, free, swirling rhythm.
