Brown stoneware jug and milk pot – vintage ceramics

A duo in turned stoneware, consisting of a covered jug and its matching milk pot. The jug captivates with its modernist and streamlined lines: a slightly curved cylindrical silhouette, an angular spout, a long slender handle, and a perfectly fitted lid. The milk pot complements it with a rounder and more generous shape, highlighted by a lovely pinched spout. The deep brown-grey glaze is glossy, with a subtly smoky hue. The turning remains perceptible beneath the glaze, and the reddish ferruginous clay appears discreetly in places, particularly under the bases. The same impressed mark is found under both pieces, resembling a cross with double arms or a stylised monogram. Signature and workshop unidentified to date. Jug: height 13 cm – width from handle to spout 14 cm – diameter at widest point 8.5 cm – weight approx. 700 g – estimated capacity 40/45 cl. Milk pot: height 8.5 cm – width from handle to spout 10 cm – diameter at widest point cm – weight approx. 280 g – estimated capacity 20/25 cl. In beautiful vintage condition, with a few tiny chips in the glaze on the inner rim of the jug's lid and under the bases (see photos). The strength of a ceramic that is pure, unembellished, and timeless.
