The artichoke

In 2019 I drew a series of close-ups views of flowers as a way to go beyond their often decorative presence and to look at them rather as alive beings. This one, the artichoke, is a real purple wonder sprouting in vegetable gardens. I felt like drawing it also because of the french expression "to have an artichoke's heart", meaning that someone falls in love quickly and easily, giving away pieces of one's heart as if they were artichoke leaves. This one, the artichoke flower, is a small wonder of ultraviolet that arises in the middle of the vegetable gardens.
