Small vegetable vendor Marcel Leray Rochefort en Terre - 1970s

Small covered vegetable dish in Leray faience. Generous silhouette with a decorated foot. Stylised flowers and foliage, engraved lines and hand-painted enamels create a lush decor where cobalt blue, mauve, green, and reddish-brown blend together. The visible striations inside echo those on the outside: they are part of the piece's decor. Signed Leray under the base; Atelier des Poteries de Rochefort-en-Terre, Morbihan. Height 13.5 cm without the lid and 22.5 cm with the lid, diameter at the opening 17 cm, width from handle to handle 25 cm, depth 9 cm. In beautiful vintage condition, a chip under the lid poorly restored, not visible when the lid is placed, minor nicks on the edge of the dish, signs of use inside and marks of time under the foot (see photos). Brilliance of colours, striations, and lush decor: all the style of Leray.
