Description
Crocheted tetex carpet made in germany, herati design. Mid-twentieth century. This offbeat pattern is composed of palmettes and flowers, one has the impression that it is only part of a larger whole. Very similar palmettes, drawn curvilinear and combined with identical forked leaves, are visible on some examples of workshop carpets made from the late seventeenth century in herat, in the province of khurasan, in eastern persia. The same motif, known as harshang design, was also used in the caucasus in the eighteenth century. The motif uses repetitive floral networks, richly complex, palmettes and flowers in the brilliant colors of motifs called herati, which make it a direct descendant of the great vase-technical carpets of the seventeenth century found in different museums around the world. Dimensions: 288x197 cm. Condition: overall fairly good. Edges redone on the 2 sides as well as on the 2 ends of the fringes. On one side the last small border is missing. 2 gaps of wool (see photo the 2 small rounds) there are no holes but a lack of wool. Very beautiful carpet that over his travels has maintained its condition as well as its charm. Beautiful colors !!.
