Rare leather lounge armchair, saporiti by giovanni offredi. 1970s/80s. Superb patina and very beautiful color. Size: Length: 180 cm. Width: 80 cm. Height: 68 cm. Italian, 1927-2007. About his mid-century modern furniture creations, which combine minimalist simplicity, elegance and symmetry, italian designer giovanni offredi once said: "beauty should not be confused with appearance, because the latter is the superficial part of form." Born in milan in 1927, offredi did not train as an architect, unlike many of his contemporaries in the first half of the twentieth century. He also only started designing furniture later in his career. His first known furniture was commissioned by wealthy milanese families in 1960. It wasn't until the late 1960s — when mr. Offredi met sergio saporiti, owner of italian furniture manufacturer and design store saporiti — that his furniture designs became more prominent. In 1970, offredi joined forces with saporiti and produced several lines of innovative and modernist furniture. Among offredi's most notable pieces are the wave chair, sofa and chaise longue, with soft curves, the onda coffee table and the paracarro dining table, with its cylindrical concrete base, glass and metal section. He also designed a series of credenzas and sideboards in lacquered wood, with a glossy finish and bold colors. Offredi maintained a fruitful collaboration with saporiti throughout the 1970s.
