Vase by Jean Linard signed

Superb and rare vase/sculpture by Jean Linard. Dimensions: H 26 cm - Width approx. 32 cm - Depth approx. 6 cm. Weight: 2.863 kg. Signed underneath with a point. Very good condition except for 3 small chips (visible in the photos). Collection in person only. JEAN LINARD Jean Linard was born in 1931 in La Marche, Nièvre, Burgundy. From his adolescence, Jean Linard became interested in clay and regularly visited the artists and craftsmen of La Borne. After studying at the École Estienne, engraving section, from 1945 to 1949, he began his professional life in the capital as an engraver, but soon felt the call of the earth. In 1959, he settled as a potter in La Borne with Danish ceramist Anne Kjaersgaard, whom he married in 1964. Together they built a house and workshops using almost exclusively reclaimed materials. Throwing then became the main part of Jean Linard's production, creating bowls, plates, cups, salad bowls, dishes, jugs, mazagrans, and vases. He makes his own glazes from ashes, such as oak, straw, or vine ashes, to achieve creamy whites, pinks, celadon greens, and blues. His work was enriched in the 1970s with a whole bestiary sculpted and coloured with human-like features and various expressions. Linard evolved throughout his life between stoneware, raku, iron, mosaic, and cement. Already recognised as a ceramist, he began his major work, the Cathedral, in 1983, a monumental construction that is both architectural and sculptural, unclassifiable and categorised as a visionary environment. Linard was an artist with many strings to his bow, being a potter, sculptor, painter, and builder.
