Old hand-knotted Bukhara Tekké rug

Bukhara tekké rug, turkmenistan, circa 1920 or before. Hand-knotted wool and velvet. Dimensions: 156 X 95 cm. This rug is decorated with a succession of three vertical rows of gulh on a red background. The main border with a succession of polychrome octagons surrounds the composition. The turkmen, originally from the distant steppes of asia, were made up of different tribes. The main ones being salor, tekké, yemouth, and saryk.
