Antique Thonet Bentwood Chair No. 14, circa 1900

Restored antique bentwood chair from around 1900. Thonet - Vienna, model No. 14 - Design by Michael Thonet. The chair has two manufacturer markings: paper label and embossed stamp. This chair was a bestseller for the company for decades and was often copied. The model presented comes from Vienna after 1881. The chair is made of beech wood, bolted and stabilized with a bentwood ring. The seat is made of curved plywood with an embossed pattern in the center. The chair is of high quality craftsmanship and is in good condition with usual signs of wear. The bentwood parts (made of one piece, curved backrest, seat insert and ring) as well as the bolts on the backrest and the front legs are in flawless condition. The surface is stained reddish-brown and lacquered with shellac - surfaces refreshed with shellac.
