Between Mexican tradition and modernity, coming from the workshops of Tonalá, Mexico, this ceramic bowl signed KE is the work of ceramist Ken Edwards, a major figure in the revival of Mexican pottery in the 60s–80s. Originally from the United States, Ken Edwards settled in Tonalá in the 1960s. He founded a workshop there where he modernized the shapes and techniques while preserving the heritage of traditional decorations: stylized birds, insects, flowers and naturalistic motifs. His style is immediately recognizable: soft tones (blue-grey, brown, cream), hand-painted decoration with a fine brown line, interwoven KE signature accompanied by a small stylized bird and high-temperature glazed ceramic, non-porous, close to stoneware. A refined and poetic decoration with this bowl which features a bird typical of Tonalá iconography, light butterflies and blooming flowers with a brown border on the edge emphasizing the circular shape. The set has a slight underglaze crackle, discreet and typical of this production. Diameter: 16 cm, height: 6.5 cm A rare workshop piece: each object from the Ken Edwards workshop is entirely handmade and unique. Today sought after for their quality and beauty, these pieces are highly collected, particularly in the United States, Japan and Europe. Their timeless charm makes them choice elements in an ethnic chic, bohemian or poetic vintage decor.
