Ceramic coffee table by Roger Capron, model Herbier, 1960s. France. Rectangular coffee table from the 1960s, featuring a top made of ceramic tiles in sandy tones. The "Herbier" decoration showcases stylised plant motifs (leaves and twigs), resembling a botanical plate. The whole is structured by a geometric jointing that adds rhythm to the top. Simple dark wood legs contrast with the ceramic and highlight the decoration. A decorative and easy-to-live-with table, typical of the Mediterranean taste of the time. Roger Capron (1922–2006) is one of the great names in French ceramics from Vallauris. He popularised ceramic furniture (tables, panels, lighting) in the 1950s to 1970s. His decorations, often inspired by nature, are sought after for their graphic quality and sunny spirit.
