Paris, late 18th century. France is at the height of its cultural refinement — and the furniture coming out of its ateliers reflects exactly that. This small drum table is a product of that moment: precise, purposeful, and quietly beautiful. Crafted from cherry wood — the timber of choice among French ébénistes for its warm reddish-brown tones and exceptionally fine grain — the piece carries the full vocabulary of the Louis XVI style. The circular top opens with a sunburst veneer pattern radiating from the centre. Below it, a cylindrical body with a single working drawer, its original brass pull still intact. Four hand-turned tapered legs, carved with delicate decorative details, end in original brass sabots. It is a small table. But it holds the room. Professionally restored and in excellent overall condition. The cherry wood has developed a deep, natural patina over more than two centuries — the kind that cannot be replicated. Minor traces of age are present and expected: they are part of what makes this piece genuine. Provenance is documented: acquired in Berlin in 1984 from an antique dealer by a private collector, with original receipt. Careful private ownership ever since. At 49 cm in diameter and 64 cm in height, it sits comfortably as a bedside table, salon side table, or a quiet focal point in an entryway. One of those pieces that works in almost any interior — and elevates it.
