Vallauris Style Bowl, Bright Fire Colours of Red, Orange, White and Brown, Fat Lava

A rare ceramic display bowl that looks like the all-seeing evil eye of sauron from lord of the rings. This style of pottery is from the mid-century era and utilises a drip glaze, reminiscent of a style of german ceramics called fat lava. It is more likely though that this piece was made in france, possibly in the pottery village of vallauris. There are no maker's marks on the piece. This bowl is extremely large: it measures 71 cm in length, 19 cm in depth/width and 13 cm in height. Although its shape, with its pointy edges, is particularly vulnerable to damages, this piece is in great vintage condition. It has a few little chips, which can be seen on the last two photos. An amazing present for a fan of the tolkien books and the lord of the rings films.
