Very beautiful oil on panel, painted around 1930, representing the apse of notre-dame de paris cathedral, seen from the banks of the seine, left bank. The painting is signed lower right by jean sumida, an artist active in the first half of the 20th century. It was exhibited at the salon de la société nationale des beaux-arts in 1931, under the title "le chevet de notre-dame". Dimensions: 21.5 X 33 cm (at sight), 35 X 47 cm (with frame, japanese style, black and gold lacquered.) if jean sumida was a professional musician - he was in fact a horn player at the opéra-comique - he exhibited his paintings several times, with success. In “le quotidien” of march 29, 1930, the journalist gustave kahn praised his work presented at the loup blanc gallery, 7 rue cardinet in paris: “mr. Jean sumida showed us a series of evocations of a somewhat classical but very distinguished art: corners of paris or marseille, picturesque streets of this beautiful town of riom, so deliciously archaic, and watercolors of beautiful brilliance and sureness. Job." our painting was exhibited at the salon of the national society of fine arts in 1931, under the title “le chevet de notre-dame”, as evidenced by the artistic chronicle of d. De charnage published in the newspaper la croix of 19 may 1931. Our painting, painted almost a century before the fire, offers one of the last testimonies of the glorious hours of the building which still retains its spire, 45 meters high, and its much-lamented framework.
