Oil painting

A striking and expressive mid-century landscape of 2 horses in nature, executed in oil onto canvas. In the foreground of the painting, our attention is immediately drawn to the 2 horses, as their white colours contrast starkly against the green meadow. As we move our gaze upwards, the painting subtlety reveals a dramatic sky that dominates the middle and background of the painting. The sky is painted in an outstanding shade of blue, and upon closer inspection, we can notice black undertones, that create a sense of intensity. There is also a spot of yellow which we can infer to be the setting sun, as well as an area of black, which we can infer to be the dark clouds emerging. This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. There are scattered areas of craquelure, mainly to the centre of the painting, as shown, but paint layer is overall stable. There are also small areas of paint loss to the upper left corner of the painting, as shown. The frame is in very good vintage condition. Size: 53 X 64 cm (including frame).
