Dittmann was a Berlin-Charlottenburg artist who studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Berlin and was appointed master student under Prof. Hans Uhlmann in 1956. He received two scholarships from the Akademie der Künste Berlin for residencies at the Villa Serpentara in Olévano Romano, Italy. His work spans painting, graphic art, collage and ceramic sculpture, and was shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. This work is a powerful and visually striking example of Dittmann's geometric abstract language: tightly interlocking forms in a blazing palette of yellow, red, orange, blue, brown and pink are arranged in a bold circular composition that draws the eye inward.
