Description
Large solid brass mek-elek articulated card reading lamp from the 30s-40s. The story: mek elek engineering was founded in 1931 in douglas street, london by hc cooper. They have produced exceptional industrial lighting for use in factories, workshops and for the aerospace industry. These brass models were mainly used on submarines and ships for machinists' work or as table lamps for map reading. Made of brass, they will not rust in contact with salty seawater. The lamp rotates in all directions using a toothed mechanism in the joints. The 3 double elbow joints are not simply adjusted by friction... They have 4 gears on each of them. The base has a heavy mounting bracket and can be attached to a table or wall. This is an important lamp, it extends over 119 cm -bulb provided- the wire measures 2meters - Sold in its patina, it can be lustrous by you, if you prefer for your decoration a shiny golden appearance. A very rare piece with a unique design.
