This is a lamp that earns its place in a room by doing something no metal or fabric shade can — it transforms light into something almost alive. The cylindrical shade is pressed crystal glass, its entire surface covered in a dense, sculptural relief pattern of elongated teardrop forms that catch and refract light in every direction. Unlit, it is a beautiful object in its own right, the glass catching ambient light and glittering quietly. Switched on, it becomes something altogether more dramatic — warm light breaking through and around each teardrop form, filling the room with a shifting, jewel-like glow. From 1946 to 1980, Swedish glass and lighting designer Carl Fagerlund worked as a designer at the venerable Swedish glassworks Orrefors, renowned for its high-quality crystal and art glass. This pendant is consistent in both material and character with Fagerlund’s prolific output of pressed crystal glass lighting for Orrefors during the 1960s — a body of work that showcases timeless elegance through heavy textured cylindrical crystal shades. While we cannot confirm the attribution with absolute certainty without a signature, the quality of the glass and the sophistication of the relief pattern are entirely consistent with Orrefors production of the period. The lamp is in great vintage condition. The glass shade is faultless — no cracks, no chips, no cloudiness. It hangs from its original fitting and is ready to use. It takes an E14 light source.
