Botanical plate representing three plants: "peryclimenum (honeysuckle), clematis (clematis), juncus (rushes)", based on a german work made by the apothecary besler basilus. Supervised by pierre david in aurillac, early / mid twentieth century. Dimensions 40x35cm. In very good conditions, the gilding of the frame is slightly patinated. Botanical plate from hortus eystettensis. Bishop von gemmingen entrusted besler with the work hortus eystettensis to immortalize the plant content of his botanical garden in an illustrated book. Besler began working on this new project with important painters and engravers such as sebastian schedel (1570-1628) or wolfgang kilian (1550-1612), among others. Probably, ludwig jungermann (1572-1653) will be responsible for writing most of the descriptions in latin, anticipating linnaeus' binomial system, since each species was identified with the first two or three words of its latin description. After fifteen years of intense work, the work finally saw the light of day in nuremberg in 1613, under the name hortus eystettensis (eichstätt garden). Published twice more with the same plates in nuremberg 1640 and 1713. These botanical plates proposed here are printed reprints. They are not original to the work of botany.
