A beautiful and eye-catching lantern in raw, brutalist lava ceramic from the famous Icelandic workshop Glit (Reykjavik). It measures 22.5 cm in height, 12 cm in diameter and weighs 940 grams. It is one of the workshop’s large and rare collector’s items. A hanging chain is included. The design was created by the German-born ceramist and chemist Gerhard Schwarz in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The piece is characterised by its dark, glossy lava glaze, which contrasts beautifully with the raw, bubbled surface. When a candle is lit inside the lantern, the organic holes create a stunning lighting effect. On the base, the piece is in perfect condition with dual markings: both the original square Glit sticker and Gerhard Schwarz’s personal stamped design mark (rose and butterfly) are completely intact. Manufacturer: Glit Lava Ceramics, Iceland. Design: Gerhard Schwarz, late 1960s or early 1970s. Condition: Beautiful and intact, with no chips or cracks. Original labels on the base. Packed securely and sent with insurance.
