In 1969, Joe Colombo, already famous Italian designer at the time, designed the tube chair for flexform, an Italian furniture manufacturer. This chair perfectly reflects the era in which it was designed. Designers were fascinated by the use of new materials such as plastic, and modular furniture was starting to be all the rage. The flesh tube consists of 4 padded plastic cylinders of different diameters that can be combined in different ways using small metal joints to create up to 15 different chairs. The chair came with a bag that allowed all the tubes to slide into each other and move the chair easily. In 1979, flexform stopped producing the tube chair and since 2016 it has been reissued by cappelini. Wear consistent with age and use, including a scratch on the fiberglass in the inner part of the large tube.
