This pretty “salt stoneware” mug from alsace, originally a beer mug of course, will also serve perfectly as a cup for morning coffee, or as a decorative piece in its own right, placed on a shelf in the kitchen. It certainly comes from alsatian or possibly german artisanal pottery. Because unlike the other mugs that I offer here, this one is neither signed nor stamped, so I have not been able to trace its origin. I just know that it was found in a flea market in alsace around 20 years ago, I would date it to the 80s or 90s but it may be older. The handmade decor, with this typical cobalt blue color, really gives it a lot of charm. This tankard can hold half a liter as shown by the hollow graduation in the stoneware. Natural salt vitrification makes salt stoneware pottery the best for conservation and food contact, the salt acts like a thin layer of waterproof and unalterable glass. And it is also for this reason that these mugs often go through the decades without the slightest deterioration in their condition, they are very resistant! This mug is in perfect condition, with no cracks, marks, stains, or even a chip! It measures 12.5 cm in height, approximately 9.5 cm in diameter and 14 cm in width including the handle. I offer other stoneware from alsace (cups, bowl, pitcher, click on “see the store”) which will delight collectors and lovers of beautiful, quality traditional ceramics. If you wish to order several, do not hesitate to contact me via messaging before ordering so that I can adjust the shipping costs for combined shipping.
