Painted Folk Art Bridal Trunk

Primitively decorated/painted bridal chest from Germany, specifically from Middle Franconia. The chest has a very rustic appearance and displays plenty of character. The entire piece is decorated with a striped motif, and the front panels are adorned with daffodils and the wedding date (1841). The chest is in neat, but used condition. There are some sporadic signs of old woodworm, which have of course been checked and treated. The lock also no longer works. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a stateroom on the farm, which was only rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. 80cm high, 125cm wide, 62cm deep.
