Morphic mirror - 230x90cm

Morphic, is a series of reflective objects conceived by combining traditional process with modern materials. The mirrored surface is created using a technique, now obsolete in the world of modern manufacture. Silver nitrate is first poured onto a prepared glass surface. The movement involved in application of the mirroring liquid along with, temperature, time and surface level all determine the individual outcome in the shape and quality of the reflective area. This results in a unique shape for each piece that purposefully seeks individuality over uniform perfection. Application of a colour to the glass surface highlights the shape of the mirrored form. Colour is represented in two states. Dichroic film presents the viewer with a spectrum of colour. Reflecting light across multiple wavelengths giving a kaleidoscopic effect. Singular tones in pigments of onyx, lapis and white quartz were specially developed for adhesion to glass and non-reactivity to silver nitrate.
